Deadline Looms on Cork Flood Defences Consultation

Has your business been affected by city centre flooding?
If so, we encourage you to engage with the OPW before the deadline for submissions on the €140m proposed flood scheme for Cork City closes on Friday.

Cork Chamber will be making a submission that endorses the project as a positive and much needed step for Cork. We will also seek further refinement such as an enhanced finish, the use of more glass panels at certain key locations, and a narrowing of the construction timeline.

Key information to consider:

  • €140m investment in Cork City
  • Development of more than 1km of new public walkways
  • A new boardwalk
  • New public plazas
  • €20 million clean-up and restoration of over 3km masonry quay walls
  • Better disability access to our pathways
  • 3,179 properties including almost 400 protected structures protected from flooding

Share your thoughts on the need for flood defences and the design and look of same by contacting Claire Anderson here

A collection of photomontages from the proposed scheme is available to view here
