In addition, large companies are more and more setting expectations of responsible business practices with potential suppliers – be it large or small businesses.

How innovative is your business?
Innovation Health Check Tool

Enterprise Europe Network staff are now trained to use Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Health Check Tool, a tool which can help establish how innovation-oriented a company is. The innovation benchmark is a facilitated self-assessment to evaluate innovation processes.

The Innovation Health Check is free, costs are covered by Enterprise Europe Network. Contact Ivan or Eimear for more information.

The Innovation Health Check benchmark is an Enterprise Ireland tool to help establish how ‘Innovation’ oriented your company is. Long term studies have shown that at least 50% of companies who do not actively innovate have ceased to trade after 10 years. The innovation benchmark is a facilitated self-assessment to evaluate your innovation process. It looks at how the process operates from the outset, capturing customer needs (stated and un-stated), idea generation, concept development, product/service development up to the commercial realisation stage and all steps in between. The Innovation benchmark will explore how this process is impacted by company culture, business strategy & structure, the company capability & resources and the level of innovative processes that are in place. This benchmarking tool has been approved for use across Europe by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and your report will allow you to benchmark your results against the hundreds of companies that have already gone through the assessment.

What does it involve?

The Innovation Health Check involves a facilitated half-day workshop. This works best with a group of staff drawn from different functional areas and levels of your business. The workshop will be facilitated by trained personnel from EEN Cork Chamber, who will guide the group through the questionnaire. You will receive a 12-15 page report that identifies key strengths and areas for improvement.

For whom?

For companies of more than five employees with innovation, internationalisation and growth ambitions.

What does it cost and how do I avail of the service?

The Innovation Health Check is free, costs are covered by Enterprise Europe Network. Contact Ivan or Eimear for more information.

European Commission Call for Evaluators / Experts in Innovation or Investment

The Commission is looking to expand its pool of expert evaluators to include entrepreneurs, investors and experts, as part of the pilot European Innovation Council.

European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, has launched a call for evaluators with expertise in innovation or investment. Evaluators will be asked toreview proposals submitted by SMEs from across the EU for funding to support the development of breakthrough innovations. This is part of the pilot European Innovation Council. In a later stage, evaluators will also interviewthe applicants and select the top innovators that are to be funded.

From autumn 2017, the EU's research and innovation programme Horizon 2020 will support innovation projects from innovators, researchers, corporates and SMEs active in any sector or technology as they look to support breakthrough innovations that have the potential to create new markets. The aim is to identify companies and entrepreneurs with the potential and ambition to grow internationally, as part of a pilot European Innovation Council. Applications for EIC funding will need to be evaluated by experts in innovation. And the best SME applicants will be interviewed by a panel of expert evaluators.

The Commission is therefore looking to expand its pool of expert evaluators to include:

  • Entrepreneurs who have started up and scaled up innovative enterprises at European or global level;
  • Investors (including those affiliated with banks, venture capitalists, business angels, crowd-funders etc.);
  • Experts involved in the innovation ecosystem (business schools, universities, innovation hubs, accelerators, etc.).

Interested experts can register interest online here.
