Visit from Mayor Ed Lee helps Cork connect with the business community in San Francisco

Cork Chamber welcomed the Mayor of San Francisco, Ed Lee and his delegation to Cork.

The group represents one of the largest delegations that has ever visited from Cork’s sister-city of San Francisco. Mayor Lee is spending four days in Cork at a series of business and cultural engagements, including participating in the UNESCO conference on learning cities that is being hosted this week by Cork City Council.

Welcoming Mayor Lee to Cork, Chamber President Bill O’Connell spoke about the strong links that are shared by our business communities: “Cork’s relationship with the US West Coast extends from the San Francisco Bay Area into Silicon Valley, and there are currently over 30 companies from the wider state of California with a presence in Cork."

New ‘Get Brexit Ready’ Programme to Enable Tourism Sector to Sustain Growth

Fáilte Ireland have recently unveiled ‘Get Brexit Ready’, a suite of industry supports designed to help businesses at risk or already struggling with the loss of trade created by Brexit. The programme allows individual businesses to self-assess their exposures and risks and provides a range of interventions to match their needs.

Underlining the necessity for the programme Fáilte Ireland estimates that, by the end of the year, Brexit will mean 300,000 less British trips here which, taken in isolation, would represent €88m in revenue and an estimated 1,900 tourism jobs lost had the fall in British numbers not been compensated by a strong performance in other markets.
